ICAI CA Foundation Syllabus
First, let us check out what this CA Foundation course is all about!
CA Foundation is an entrance exam for the CA aspirants. Earlier, the ICAI used to conduct CA CPT (Common Proficiency Test) at entry-level. Then, it replaced the CA CPT with CA Foundation Course in order to shortlist the right students for CA Exams. The registration of CA Foundation started on 1 July 2017, and the registration of CA CPT closed on 30 June 2017 and introduced new CA Foundation Syllabus.
Exam Pattern of CA Foundation
Here is the pattern of exam for CA Foundation:
- The exam consists of 4 papers
- This exam is conducted offline in the month of May and November. You have an option with two languages, i.e., English and Hindi.
- Each paper carries 100 marks so, the aggregate marks of this exam are 400
- You need to score at least 40 per cent in each subject in order to pass each subject individually.
- Additionally, the aggregate percentile must be at least 50 for passing the whole exam. So, you need to score 200 or above out of 400 marks in these exams.
- The exam duration of 1st and 2nd paper is 3 hours each. The duration of 3rd and 4th paper is 2 hours each.
- Two of them are subjective, and the rest of the two are objective.
- Further, in objective papers, there is a negative marking of ¼ for the wrong answers.

Eligibility to Appear in CA Foundation Exam

Any student can become eligible to take this exam by fulfilling these requirements:
- Should pass 12th class exams
- Should register for the exams at least before four months from the month of the exam.
- For example, if you want to appear in May 2020 exams then, the last date of registration is 31 December. You may register at any time for the exams, but the gap of registration and exams must be at least four months.
- Moreover, last date of registration for the Nov 2019 exams has been closed on 30 June.

Registration Procedure
- There is an official website of ICAI, so first login to the website.
- Now, create an account on the website by filling all the necessary details like email, name, mobile number, aadhaar number, etc.
- After creating an account on the website, you will find an option named the registration portal. Log in to the portal for the registration process.
- You will find an option for the registration of the foundation course. So, open that form and fill all the asked detail in the form
- Further, upload all the asked documents like 12th class mark sheet, ID proof.
- Then move further for the payment option and pay through online medium
- Now, you may save and print the document
Preparation Tips for the Exams
- First, list all the important chapters for you, which are scoring as well as easy for you. Like, there are three parts in paper no. 3, i.e., logical reasoning, mathematics, and statistics. So, if you are not good at math, then you can focus on statistics and reasoning and vice versa.
- Make a schedule of study and plan for the exam.
- Complete the course before 2 or 3 months of the exams so that you can get sufficient time for revision.
- Try to solve maximum sample papers and previous attempts papers. It will help you in developing confidence as well as efficiency.
- Prepare last time revision notes as you will get only a one-day holiday in-between your exams. So, it will help you in revising the whole course at the last moment.
